The inspiration behind this blog actually began way back in 2018, when my mom gifted me a little photo album one Christmas—except instead of photos, it was filled with handwritten recipes.
They were old island classics she’d collected over the years: recipes from neighbors, aunties, and legendary cooks around the Bay Islands who were each known for that one dish they made better than anyone else. That little album? I treasure it. For years, I dreamed of turning it into a cookbook to give as a gift at Christmas. It felt like a two-for-one win: preserve our heritage and knock out my holiday shopping list.
But every year, life happened. The cookbook dream stayed on the back burner.
And then, one day, I had this thought:
“Do people even read cookbooks anymore? Everything’s digital now— Pinterest boards, food blogs, reels, TikToks…”
If you know me, you know that sounds exactly like something I’d say. I’m the MacBook-loving, iPhone-toting, online-shopping queen of the family—100% my father’s daughter. He’s the original tech guru, aka “the iPhone King.”
So I followed the rabbit down the food blog rabbit hole, and surprise!—I came out the other side with a cookbook anyway. 💁♀️️
And here it is:
Pastries & Desserts of the Bay Islands — a collection of traditional sweet recipes from my island home, written by a native Bay Islander (hi, it’s me 👋).
Inside, you’ll find nostalgic favorites like Corn Custard, Yuca Cake, Duff, and more!
You can find it on Amazon.com in print and Kindle formats or download a digital copy here!
